JUMP ON BOARD!
CALL FOR SWFHIMA BOARD NOMINATION
The Board of Directors of the Southwest Florida Health Information Management Association needs you!
As a paid member of SWFHIMA, YOU are entitled to run for office for our Board of Directors each year and WE NEED YOU to JUMP ON BOARD!
This year we have an opening for President-Elect. This is a three year commitment as a Board Member serving your first year as President-Elect, second year as President, and your third year as Past-President.
See our By-Laws and Standing Rules on this SWFHIMA website to see some of the duties of this position. You would be responsible for attending some meetings each year with our state association, FHIMA, as their programs provide excellent teaching tools for members of the Board and for those who want to get ahead and set trends in our profession. A big plus is networking among other members locally and at the state association level.
We do offer telephone conference calls for our Board meetings so distance should not hinder anyone living anywhere in our association’s area. We want to expand our Board members participation beyond the boundaries of Lee County, Florida.
Our Board needs fresh ideas and we want your help to keep developing our excellent and informative seminars, reaching out to current members and new members, mentoring students, and be liaisons as Health Information Management professionals.
There is no limit to what you can do! There are no prerequisites, all you need is your credential and be willing to “JUMP ON BOARD!” Not sure? Our current Board members will help you along the way providing mentorship in this position, we all help each other.
I started out as the student liaison for two years (Hodges University), became secretary, served in my three-year commitment and I can tell you it has been more than rewarding! Making new friends, contacts, opening my eyes to what is possible in this profession, knowing my SWFHIMA Board is behind me in every way, has been an invaluable asset in my professional career. I will always be thankful for my opportunities. It also has looked good on my resume!
Regards, 2011-2012 Past-President, Stephanie L. Lawler, RHIT
